Hello All I am excited about returning to college. With this class what i find interesting is that there are so many links and clicks and different pages, different emails, groups, discussions and navigational tools. I confess, to me all these things are like the dash board of an airplane. While I am eager to learn, i also feel a bit anxious getting to know my way around. Two things that i have taken away from the reading and very entertaining video's with Robin Williams that apply to me right now are: We/I have to learn to look at things in a different way and 2) What we/i choose to analyse (discussions and assignments) is just as important or equally importation as the lens in which we view it. The latter was not stated verbatim but i am eager to explore organizational dynamics.
I went back into the course management site and learned a few things that i missed- small things and bigger things. I see that as responders we are to include that role in parenthesis. I also so that we can expound on our views of what the search has posted rather than just one post. WHen i am really in to in and i understand what is going on i can be pretty long winded so i will make sure to divide my comments. I confess that it takes me a while but i want to develop good thoughts and generate good conversations and discussions.
I was a free lance writer for an online magazine for two years. Prior to that i wrote for the Capitol City Currier.I am also an author/poet BUT, i realize that college writing and business writing have technical difference. When writing for newspapers, I had to write more for a board audience but at the 5th and 6th grade level. I also was a site director for elementary schools where i helped with home work of simple sentences, easy vocabulary words and Dr Seuss books. I realize I have to transition my brain to academia and revisit certain formats of writing. I appreciate the link to the APA style as i remember my college days but i may have questions. I am excited.
I can see the dynamics of being trained to think a certain way when working in a particular industry and field can limit one's ability or full potential. Higher education causes a serious paradigm shift which i can appreciate. I may need a little direction on the paper assignment if i can please be so bold and open to ask you Bill and/or Eric. I don't want to wait until the last minute to starting preparing for the finally project. Thanks
Hello all I just took the plastic off "Becoming a Master Manager" and read the introduction all the way up to the recap on page 32. Dr Bland if there is an assessment survey on the student companion website as suggested by the book, i would really like to do one now and then at the conclusion of the class. After i took the time to read this book, then return to my syllabubs, i realized i didn't need to read this right away; never-the-less, I'm glad i read it. I found it very interesting. It is a much easier to read to me than the Image book, not just because of the simple language but the design of the book, the white pages and the bold definitions and examples. It actually helped to clarify and simplify some of the language I had read in Images. - Just sharing...
