  1. My name is Eric Oscarson and I live and work in the suburbs of Chicago. I am currently the Assistant to the Director of Public Works and Engineering for a local municipality. I have been in the public sector for 8 years working my way up from the bottom. I recently graduated with my BS and this is my first semester of the Master's program here at UIS. I spend most of my free time working on school work and chasing around my kids. I look forward to an exciting semester.

  2. Hello Classmates,

My name is Bill Frisbee. I currently live and work for the City of Beloit, WI. I am the Stormwater Engineer and also a supervisor for our water utility.

This is my 6th class in the program. I am looking forward to this semester as it will give me the opportunity to study and understand my workplace dynamics at a deeper level.

Outside of work and school, I enjoy both playing and watching sports, weightlifting, traveling and spending time with my wife.

  3. Hello Colleagues, I am Evelina Mendy, a new International student at UIS Master of Public Administration. I am from The Gambia in West Africa and I graduated with my BA in 2009 back home and since then I have been working at The University of The Gambia as a Faculty Officer and later as the Personal Assistant to the Vice Chancellor. So I am still new in the public administration domain with barely three years of working experience.
I look forward to contributing and learning a lot from you all throughout the semester.

  4. Recently married, my wife Jennifer and I are enjoying living on our own for the first time in Springfield. Having been sworn into the Illinois Bar, I am now pursuing an MPA in an effort to become a more effective advocate while working on legal or policy issues.
When I first started high school, I was unable to enter the building on my own because there were no automatic door openers. After bringing the matter to the attention of the school board and maintenance, facilitating the installation of such buttons on all doors in the school, I began thinking about other issues faced by people with disabilities that could easily be rectified through amending existing laws and attitudes. I wrote a letter to then-Congressman Mark Kirk and met with him several times; we worked together to raise awareness to other members of Congress and community leaders.
While not engaged in policy, I am an avid sports fan, cheering on the Blackhawks, White Sox, Bulls, Bears and Fighting lllini every chance I get. I also enjoys listening to all types of music, especially classic rock, blues, and independent artists, often going to concerts with Jennifer. In addition, my favorite television shows include the Big Bang Theory, Suits and Game of Thrones.
I am looking forward to meeting new people, learning new things, sharing new ideas and overcoming new challenges.

  5. Salutations all. My name is Letrice Raaw'el Ware. I noticed when i logged in that my first name did not appear so i did not want you guys to get confused. Please feel free to call me Raaw'el. Thank you. I am excited about learning and discussing organizational dynamics. Having worked at the Springfield Boys & Girls Club for 6- 7 years in various roles, i have seen many CEO's take the positions each with his or her own rules and practices. From 2012- 2013 THREE different CEO's were hired and then let go. Strange to say the least. I have worked with & for many nonprofits including the Springfield Urban League, Habitat for Humanity, and American Cancer Society. In addition to my own motivational speaking business RISE, i founded a nonprofit called S.O.W. however, i did not pursue the 501(C)3 status. I've been learning a lot about the public sector, policies and legislation due to my three years of serving with the Faith Coalition for Common Good.
I am also a poet and published Author. I am a single mother with 4 sons. I also have 3 handsome adorable grandsons. Life is busy. I hope to balance it all and learn a lot here.

I currently work for the Department of Housing and Urban Development as a Program Analyst in the Office of Public Housing, which oversees 111 public housing agencies in the state of Illinois, and it is interesting and challenging work. I began my MPA program last semester, and this is my second course in the program. In my spare time, I enjoy running, distance cycling, cooking, reading, and I'm a coxswain for a rowing team.

I look forward to learning with you all this semester!
